‘Dead’ man’s case may be cleared in a month

PETALING JAYA: The National Registration Department’s Birth, Death and Adoptions division has started investigating the case of V. Marimuthu who has been classified as “dead”.
Department public relations officer Jainisah Mohd Noor said the division had to first look into the supporting documents which were used to register him as “dead”.
“After we look through the documents, we will have to check the thumbprints to confirm the man’s identity. Once that is cleared, he can apply for his Mykad.
“If it’s a simple and straightforward case, the confusion should be cleared up in less than a month,” she said yesterday.
It was earlier reported that the contract worker, had gone to the Negri Sembilan registration department three years ago to change his identity card to the MyKad version but was shocked when told by an officer that records showed that he had died.
His status had remained unchanged since then despite him making several trips to the department, as officers repeatedly told him that they had to clarify his status first.
